The Stone Boat was discovered and named by Zhou Kang, a magistrate in Song Dynasty. Travelers and literati of different dynasties left their verses and essays to record it. After Qing Dynasty, the government has ordered the search of the boat for several times in vain. In September of 1992, the boat was rediscovered by the Administrative Office in the scenic spot. It was one of the important historical evidence in Hainan Island .
