The character "Longevity" was the handwriting of Ci Xi, the empress of Qing Dynasty. "In the period of Guangxu, Ci Xi granted this character to Wang Heng, the executive officer of Yazhou (the present Sanya). Wang Heng built a Shrine of Sharing Goodness at the site facing the prime peak of Mountain Nanshan . He engraved the character "Longevity" on the stone implying "having a life as everlasting as Mt Nanshan". Later on, after the Shrine was destroyed, the tablet was re-erected at this site. |
