Dongtian Park is connected to Buddhism because of Monk Jian zhen But actually Taoist Cuitural is much emphasized here ,the Minor Grotto Heaven where Mao Kui had Cultivated Taoism is positioned under a huge purple blue rock in a shape of a turtle shell ,with a crack of about 28m long on one side ,.One must lower upper body before moving sideways in ,The grotto can hold about 30persons .Down inside ,sitting on a stone ,you will feel the coolness and quietness around you .If you are spieitual enlugh ,You can understand the inner world of a Taoist in cuitivation and refinement:teanquil and devoid of sensual desire.

According to the Record of Yazhou,there also was a Major Grotto Heaven ,located close to Minor Grotto Heaven ,down south of the stone Boat ,.A placard bearing its name was hanging above the entrance of the grotto ,which was half hidden among bamboo and palms ,Inside ,a brook warbled through and a stone table and chairs were set for people to rest .

During the period of Yongzheng Qing dynasty ,a woodsman named chen Jitong Came to the mountain for cutting firewood .On his way down the mountain ,he saw the entrance of the grotto .Feeling a strong urgc to look inside ,he lett the firewood outside and entered ,Down inside ,two old men were sitting at the table playing chess.They were actually two immortals .Only by standing beside them watching ,chen gained some of their immortal energy .He enjoyed a full hundred years of life span and died without suffering from and illness.This 'Major Grotto Heaven'has not yet been discovered ,lenving us a dreamy suspense.

'Grotto Heaven'is the abode of immortals in Taoism .There are different records of the 'Grotto Heaven'and 'Blessed Realm'where immortals truly live ,such as '10Major Grotto Heavens', '36Minor Grotto Heavens'amd '72Blessed Realms'.Looking up through these records ,you will find the "Major &Minor Grotto Heavens"in sanya (Dongtian Park )are not included in them .However ,it does not prevent us from naming the park as Grotto Heaven (Dongtian)because an island is believed by Taoists to be the ideal site for cultivation and refincment ,The three immortal abodes in legendpenglai ,Fangzhang and Yingzhou are all islands ,These three abodes are fabricated in story but Dongtian Park is genuine ,Due to reasons such as poor transportation and underdevelopment ,Dongtian Park in Sanya (Major &Minor Grotto Heavens )becomes a paradise last known to the world .

Taoism as a religion was initiated in the mid period of Eastern Han dynasty by Zhang Ling with a name 'Orthodox Oneness Tradition'.It is said that Zhang Ling built three palaces named as Heaven ,Earth and Water in Mt Heming in sichuang province to start the tradition .He called himself the Celestial Master and cure disease for people with Talismanic water .Anyone who wanted to follow him must contribute five-pack of rice .That's why seet is also called'Tradition of Five -Pack of Rice'.

Taoism worshipped ghosts and immortals but its essence lies in nourishing and refining life in order to attain immortality and beeomr free of birth and death .To this end ,Taoists has tries many ways.For the beginning ,they set up culdrons to make 'elixir' to take by refining minerals such as lead ,mercury ,sulfur ,and quartz.This activity was called Outer Alchemy .Later ,when they were aware of the toxic nature of lead and mercury which was lethal to human life ,they resorted to other methods .

In the period of late Tang and the Five Dynasties ,a new teadition was born as Inner Alchemy .It belivevd that Essential Matter ,Vital Breath mand spirit existed within man's body and by rrfining the Essential Matter into the vital Breath ,refining the Vital Breath into Spirit ,then refining the spirit to emptiness,one can attain longevity and immortality.

Inner Alchemy was initiated by zhong Liquan and Lu Dongbin which was also called 'Zhong-Lu Tradition' .Lu Dongbin was the most popular one among the famous Eight Immortals .He was chivalrous ,helped the needy ,and gave money to the poor and medicine to the diseased .For evil people who took advantage of their power to bully the helpless ,he would give them lessons ,He always traveled around ,covering almost every part of the country including Dongtian Park.

According to a legend ,the townsfolk of Lao Zi ,a close friend of Lu Dongbin ,ancestor Chen Tuo had also visited Dongtian Park and left a characer 'Longevity'of half a meter high .This is why we call the engraved stone 'Longevity Stone from an Immortal Elder'.

Zhong-Lu Tradition was split into two sects during song dynasty :the southern sect and the Northern sect ,For the southern seet ,there were five ancestors :zhang Borui ,shi Tai ,Xue Biguang ,Chen Nan ,Bai Yuchan .The last one was born in Qiongzhou ,a Taoist Qiongshan,when he was young ,he killed a person in rendering help to others and had to escape to wuyi Mountain where he followed Chen Nan on Taoism ,Whn chen Nan was a way becoming an immortal ,he followed chen Nan on Taoism ,When Chen Nan was away beeoming an immortal ,he restyled himself as Wuyi Free Man ,teaveling among Taoist mountains such as Luofu ,Wuyi ,Longhu and Tiantai.

In the fifteenth year of Jiading period under the reign of song Ningzong ( 1218A .D.),he went to the capital Lin'an(the present Hangzhou)to submit a petition but he was refused .Disappointed and mortified ,he left the city and lived as a hermit ,concentrating on writing books .He was a prolific and accomplished scholar on Taoism.
