Divine Tortoise of the South Sea

Nanshan was historically known as Aoshan, named after its mountain shape resembling a giant turtle emerging from the sea。The place where the South China Sea God Turtle stands is the location of the entire Aoshan Aotou. It is shaped like a dragon head, a turtle body, and a unicorn tail (the God Turtle is made of copper, measuring 2.9 meters in length, 1.5 meters in width, and weighing 1.5 tons. Its body is adorned with eight trigrams, its head is surrounded by curly whiskers, and its eyes are piercing, gazing straight at the South China Sea).Above, there is a Guan'ao Pavilion, which is an excellent spot to overlook the panoramic sea view of the entire scenic area.

Behind the Aoshen, there stands a stone wall engraved with a picture of the Kuixing, an image that seems to be a painting yet not entirely, and appears to be a person yet not fully formed, stepping on the character "鳌". This is the legendary Kuixing. As one of the 28 constellations, Kuixing is the deity in charge of literary fortune. In the picture, Kuixing is depicted holding a pen in one hand and kicking a "斗" with one foot, symbolizing people's aspirations to achieve fame and distinction through the imperial examination system.
